Keystone sits about 93 miles west of Denver International Airport. Keystone Resort tells its own guests to allow approximately 90 minutes for the drive. That number is honest on a clear Tuesday in June. It is optimistic at 4 p.m. on a Saturday in January, when I-70 westbound is moving the whole Front Range through the same two lanes toward the Eisenhower–Johnson Memorial Tunnel.
We run that drive year round: one vehicle, one driver, one price, from Level 5 at DEN to your building in River Run, Mountain House, Lakeside Village, the Keystone Ranch area, or a private home on the Snake River side. Your driver watches your flight, meets you at the correct island, and takes the tunnel unless conditions say otherwise.
How much is a car service from Denver Airport to Keystone?
Rates are quoted per vehicle, not per person. Four people in one SUV pay the same as one person in that SUV. A quote covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and the direct run to your address in Keystone, with no other passengers added and no other stops unless you ask for one.
Winter, holiday weeks and late-night arrivals price differently from a midweek summer transfer, which is why quotes are given against your actual date and flight rather than off a generic table.
Here is the comparison that actually decides this for most families. Shared shuttles from DEN into Summit County generally run somewhere around $60 to $140 per person in winter. A family of four is therefore looking at roughly $240 to $560, and that money buys a seat on a multi-stop loop that may serve Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, Copper, and Breckenridge before it gets to your village. A private car is one flat per-vehicle price, direct, on your clock. Once you are at three or four travelers, the private vehicle is frequently the cheaper line item as well as the shorter trip.
Your written quote lists every line item, including any airport fees, taxes and gratuity, before you confirm. There is no surge multiplier applied after booking.
The route from DEN to Keystone
This is Keystone Resort’s own published routing, and it is the one we drive.
- Leave the terminal on Peña Boulevard.
- Join I-70 West and stay on it for roughly 80 miles.
- Pass through the Eisenhower–Johnson Memorial Tunnel at roughly mile marker 213.
- Continue about 6 more miles to Exit 205, signed “US 6 east / SH 9 north, Silverthorne, Dillon.”
- Turn left at the top of the ramp, pass under the I-70 overpass, and get on US-6 east.
- Follow US-6 east about 7 miles into Keystone.
Roughly 93 miles from the terminal. The last 7 miles on US-6 run along the Snake River past Keystone’s villages, which is why the drop-off you name matters: Mountain House, River Run, and Lakeside are separate arrivals off that road, not one address.
One more piece of local geography worth knowing: Swan Mountain Road, Summit County Road 1, runs from Farmers Korner on CO-9 to US-6 near the Dillon Dam, past the Sapphire Point overlook, across the south side of Dillon Reservoir. It is the short way between the Keystone and Dillon side and CO-9 near Breckenridge. If your itinerary includes a hop between the two resorts, that is usually the route we take.
The tunnel or Loveland Pass
The Eisenhower–Johnson Memorial Tunnel tops out at 11,158 feet. It is the highest point on the Interstate Highway System. There is no exit inside it, so once you are in the bore you are committed to the far side.
Exit 216 sits immediately at the tunnel’s east portal. That ramp is US-6 west over Loveland Pass, which crests at 11,990 feet, roughly 800 vertical feet above the tunnel. It is the scenic way into Keystone: a set of switchbacks above treeline with no guardrail in places, big views, and slow going. It is also the required route for HAZMAT loads and for vehicles over 13 feet 11 inches, and it closes in bad weather, sometimes for hours.
Your driver takes the tunnel by default. Loveland Pass is the backup, used when the tunnel is closed for an incident or metered to a crawl and the pass is open and driveable. Knowing which of those two is the right call at 9 p.m. in a February snowband is the difference between arriving and sitting at a closure gate. That call depends on knowing the corridor, and it is not something to leave to a driver who may be seeing the pass for the first time.
If both the tunnel and the pass shut, nothing moves. Nobody drives around a full I-70 closure. What we do in that case is tell you early, hold you somewhere sensible, and go when CDOT opens the road.
Where to meet your driver at Denver airport
Pre-arranged black car and limousine pickup at DEN happens on Level 5 of Jeppesen Terminal, Island 2. There is a limo booth on the island for check-in.
- East side: doors 505-507 and 511-513
- West side: doors 504-506 and 510-512
Read that carefully, because this is the single most common mistake passengers make at DEN. Rideshare uses Island 5, reached through the same run of doors. Same doors, different island. Passengers walk out door 507, see the right number, and stand on the wrong island wondering where the car is. Your driver is on Island 2.
Your driver can meet you inside the terminal if you would rather be met at baggage claim than at the curb. Two limits set by airport rules, so you know what to expect: commercial operators are not permitted to take bags off the carousel, and they are not permitted to hand out luggage carts. Your driver will meet you, take your bags once they are off the belt, and walk you to the vehicle.
Your driver has your flight number and watches the actual arrival time, not the scheduled one. If you land 70 minutes late, the pickup moves with you.
Vehicles, luggage and ski gear
Most Keystone work is done in the full-size SUV. The SUV handles a couple or a family of four with mountain luggage.
Ski and snowboard bags travel inside the vehicle with you. Tell us at booking how many hard cases, ski bags, boot bags, and oversized suitcases you have, because that count, not the passenger count, is usually what shapes how we plan the trip. Getting this right at booking is free. Getting it wrong on Level 5 at 11 p.m. is not.

Private car, shared shuttle, or rideshare from DEN
Shared shuttle. Cheapest for a solo traveler. You ride a fixed departure with other passengers and a stop list through Summit County, and your arrival at Keystone depends on where you fall in that list. If your flight is late, you are rebooked onto a later departure, not waited for.
Private car. One flat per-vehicle price agreed in advance, a driver assigned to your flight, a vehicle equipped for the corridor, and a direct run to your village. For two or more travelers with gear, this is usually the better value once you count the per-person shuttle math above.
Booking your return trip to the airport
Leave Keystone at least 3.5 to 4 hours before your flight. In peak season, and on any winter Sunday, make it 4 to 5 hours.
That is not padding. Eastbound I-70 stacks up at the tunnel every Sunday afternoon in ski season as the weekend traffic heads back to Denver, and the backup can start miles west of the east portal. A 90-minute drive becomes two and a half or three hours with no warning and no way around it. Add DEN’s own security and terminal-to-gate time on a holiday Monday and the buffer disappears fast.
We book the return when we book the arrival. You get a pickup time based on your flight, your village, and the day of the week, not a generic rule. If you want to leave earlier and wait at the airport, we will take you earlier. Nobody has ever regretted an extra 45 minutes at DEN.
Where we drop off at Keystone
We deliver to the door of the building you are actually staying in, not to a central resort drop point:
- River Run Village: the gondola-side condos, hotels, and rental buildings.
- Mountain House: the Keystone Road side, near the Argentine and Peru lifts.
- Lakeside Village: the Keystone Lake and conference center area.
- Keystone Ranch area: the golf course side, up Soda Ridge and Keystone Ranch Road.
- Private homes and rentals along US-6, Montezuma Road, and the Snake River drainage.
Give us the property name and unit or street address at booking, plus a check-in instruction if there is one. Many Keystone rentals require a stop at a management office for keys, and it is faster if we plan that stop rather than discover it.
Grocery and gear stops on the way in are common and easy to add. Dillon, Silverthorne, and Frisco all sit within a few minutes of Exit 205, so the stop costs you very little time in either direction. Tell us at booking so the time is built into the reservation.

How far ahead should I book for Christmas or Presidents Day weekend?
Book holiday weeks as early as you can, ideally when you book your flights. Late December, MLK weekend, Presidents Day weekend, and spring break sell out the mountain fleet in Denver, and last-minute availability on those dates is thin.
How do I book my return trip to the airport?
Book it at the same time as your arrival and give us your departure flight. We will set a pickup time of at least 3.5 to 4 hours before departure, and 4 to 5 hours in peak season or on a winter Sunday, because eastbound I-70 backs up at the tunnel.
