From there, the usual shape of a Red Rocks night runs like this. These are typical patterns rather than venue policy, so treat them as planning guidance, not a guarantee:
- Doors commonly open around ninety minutes to two hours before the first act.
- An opener typically plays 30 to 45 minutes.
- A changeover of 20 to 30 minutes follows.
- A headliner generally plays 75 to 105 minutes including an encore.
So a show with an 8pm start and one opener usually finishes somewhere between 10:30pm and 11:15pm. Two openers pushes that later. A festival-style bill with three acts can run later still.

The part nobody plans for: getting out
This is the real answer to “how long does it take to get out of Red Rocks after a concert”, and it has less to do with the show and more to do with the geography.
Red Rocks is built into a hillside. At the end of the night, several thousand people leave a canyon at once, on foot, in the dark, from lots they parked in hours earlier while it was still light. The lots empty from the top down and the bottom up simultaneously into a small number of exits.
Realistically, from last song to actually moving, plan on 30 to 60 minutes if you parked, and longer on a sold-out night. That is not a queue you can beat by leaving during the encore, because everyone else has had the same idea.
Where cars collect you, and why it is not where you were dropped
This is the single most useful thing on this page, and it catches people every single show.
Passenger pickup at the end of the night is in the Jurassic Lot, near Entrance 2, only. That is the venue’s own rule and it applies to private cars, taxis and rideshare alike. It is not where you were dropped off.
The venue’s recommended walking route to get there is via the Will Call Trail, across from the Trading Post, and down Red Rocks Park Road. Knowing that in advance is worth a great deal at 11pm in the dark.
What goes wrong: people come out of the amphitheatre, open an app, and try to be collected where they arrived. That is not permitted at that hour. Then they wait, in the cold, while the driver who accepted the trip circles somewhere they cannot reach.
On the way in, standard drop-off is the Top Circle Lot via Entrance 1, or the Red Rocks Park Road and Trading Post Road intersection, which is Entrance 2. Usefully, limousines and private cars may use Top Circle or the Upper North Lot at venue staff discretion, which is as close as any vehicle gets.
The 8:30pm cutoff
One hard constraint worth building your evening around: vehicle entry to the park ends nightly at 8:30pm or earlier. It is a hard stop, not a guideline. If your show has late doors and you are planning to arrive at 8:25pm, you are cutting it far finer than the drive time suggests, because the last few miles on a sold-out night are the slow part.
Our standing advice: leave earlier than the map says. If doors are at 6:30pm, plan to be inside the park well before 8pm.
Two rules that change your night if you do not know them
There is no re-entry. Once your ticket is scanned you cannot leave and come back, except in a weather or medical emergency. So the run back to the car for a jacket is not available to you. Bring the jacket.
Everything must fit under your seat. The venue’s rule is that all possessions fit within an 18 inch by 12 inch space under your designated seat. Plan your bag around that rather than discovering it at the gate.
The full night, from leaving Denver
A worked example for a show with 6:30pm doors and an 8pm start. Shift everything if your times differ.
- Around 4:30pm. Leave central Denver. Concert nights are not normal traffic and the approach roads are the slow part, so the drive time your phone quotes at 4pm is not the drive time you will get at 6pm.
- 5:15pm to 5:45pm. Dinner in Morrison if you want it. This is the move that makes an hourly booking worth it rather than a round-trip transfer, because the vehicle stays with you.
- Before 6:30pm. Into the park and dropped as close as staff permit. General admission means the earlier you are through the gate the better your spot.
- 8pm. Opener.
- 8:45pm to 9:15pm. Changeover.
- Around 9:15pm. Headliner.
- 10:30pm to 11:15pm. Last song, encore, lights.
- Then. Walk the Will Call Trail down to the Jurassic Lot, where your driver is already positioned because you agreed the meeting point before the show started.
Layers, even in July
Red Rocks sits at altitude on an exposed hillside and the temperature drop after sunset is genuinely severe. A July evening that starts at 88 degrees can finish in the fifties with wind. Combine that with the no-re-entry rule and the layer you left in the car is a layer you do not have. Every regular brings more than they think they need.
Where a car actually helps, and where it does not
Being straight about this. For one or two people on a weeknight with an easy drive home, parking is free and driving yourself is fine.
Where it changes:
You are a group. The price is per vehicle, not per person. Six people in one SUV pay one figure, which frequently lands below everyone taking separate rideshares at post-show surge, and it is dramatically less trouble.
Anyone is drinking. It is a night out. The point of a chauffeur is that the drive home is not your problem and nobody gets nominated.
You do not know the park. The entrances, the lot names and the trails are confusing in the dark even when you have been before.
